Life in Nottingham

In the heart of England, Nottingham is a vibrant and versatile city, rich with heritage and culture, embracing creativity and originality. Nottingham has a long history shrouded in drama, mystery and myth.

Our city has a legendary heritage, from the world-famous mythical outlaw Robin Hood to literary giants Lord Byron and DH Lawrence. In 2015, Nottingham was awarded UNESCO City of Literature status.

Home to the East Midlands’ premier commercial, retail, financial and business centre, Nottingham also plays a distinctive role in the UK’s national and regional economic growth.

The city is rapidly developing and benefiting from major infrastructure and regeneration projects, in which the university is playing a vital part. Itis also part of the UK’s Core Cities Group, those cities that have been identified by as powerhouses of the economy.

In addition to the university’s award-winning campuses, the city boasts an array of open green spaces and further afield there are country parks such as Clumber Park, the Lincolnshire Wolds, and the Peak District National Park is on Nottingham’s doorstep.

We have a large student population and, according to the QS Best Student City Rankings 2025, Nottingham is 51st in the world and in the top 10of the UK cities ranked.

Along with our own Lakeside Arts (located on University Park Campus), the city has a strong selection of museums, theatres, art galleries, multiplex and arthouse cinemas, literature events, music festivals and venues.

The city is also home to a wide range of sports centres, including The National Water Sports Centre, National Ice Centre, Nottingham Climbing Centre and Nottingham Tennis Centre.

And as a spectator you can enjoy rugby union at Nottingham Rugby Club, football at Nottingham Forest and Notts County Football Club, and international cricket at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.

The universities, alongside local authority leaders, the Local Enterprise Partnership, two local colleges, and leaders of the local healthcare trust sand Integrated Care Board have come together with a shared mission to improve levels of prosperity, opportunity, sustainability, health and wellbeing for the communities that unite us.
